Tides and Weather around Sooke

Sooke boasts a very moderate climate with dry, warm summers, and rainy, but very mild winters. While the west coast is infamous for its damp, dreary and drizzly winters, the Greater Victoria Area is in truth not as rainy as commonly believed. In fact, both Vancouver and Seattle get twice as much annual rainfall! The region also claims Canada’s mildest climate because the proximate Pacific Ocean maintains a constant temperature of 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees F), and the surrounding mountains create an additional weather protection. Prevailing westerly ocean winds provide a buffer to warmer summer and cooler winter temperatures.

Summer temperatures range from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius (70-80 degrees Fahrenheit), with low humidity. Although not as frequent, on some hot summer days the temperature rises above 30 degrees Celsius (90 degrees Fahrenheit).

Occasionally the area sees frost, and even more infrequently receives snowfall. In fact, Victoria is the only Canadian city to ever record winters when the thermometer did not once register below freezing. But when it does snow; little rivals the winter-land beauty of the crisp snow contrasted against the vibrant green coastal rainforests. Snowfall is fleeting and rarely stays on the ground for more than a day or two. This makes the Sooke region one of those rare places that visitors are drawn to at any time of year. Even in January, visitors and local residents can enjoy outdoor activities such as fishing, sailing, hiking and golf.
