Sombrio Beach is approximately 57 kilometres west of Sooke and 24 kilometres west of Jordan River along Highway 14. A short 10-minute walk from the parking lot, Sombrio Beach is a first rate surfing area, and the best place to ride the waves on Southern Vancouver Island. While the conditions aren’t as ideal as those in Tofino and Long Beach, Sombrio Beach provides terrific wilderness surfing opportunities, especially in the winter months. Windsurfing is also a popular activity in this area, and there are two designated wilderness camping areas at Sombrio Beach;
at East Sombrio and at West Sombrio.
