Peden Lake Trail in Sooke BC
Accessed from Sooke River Road, just off of Sooke Road (Highway 14), Peden Lake is named for Victorian Olympian Torchy Peden, this lake and trailhead are sometimes considered to be part of Sooke Mountain Park because there is no vehicle access from Sooke Potholes Regional Park, though the lake is much closer to the “potholes”.
Getting to the lake from the potholes involves a moderately challenging 2-hour or 4 kilometer hike starting on the Galloping Goose Trail heading south. The lake trailhead is about 20m south of the Todd Creek Trestle. The trail is marked, though not always clearly visible; a notable indicator that you’re heading in the right direction is coming upon the old water pipeline that leads from Sooke Lake to Mt. Wells.
