Volunteers needed for the Streets of BC booth in Richmond during the 2010 Olympics.

For the last month or so, Discover Sooke has been assisting the great team put together to design, create and build the large booth the Sooke Region has at the Streets of BC in Richmond, BC during the Olympics.

We can’t begin to tell you how impressed we are of this team of amazing, creative and talented individuals headed by Evonne Black of the Sooke Fine Arts Show. Fire Chief Steve Sorensen and his crew have been spending many hours building this large, 40′ x 8′ booth which is turning out amazing, even better than I had envisioned.

Chris, a volunteer firefighter and owner of a local landscaping company in Sooke is putting together the “beach, Sooke hills, and the ocean” components of this booth.

We also have a 7 foot high working lighthouse, 8 foot Orca and a 40′ boardwalk. To top it all off we also feature a 52′ x 8 foot panorama of the Sooke Harbour.

The last month or so has been VERY hectic and busy with everyone putting in their 110%. Sometime in early February this booth will be open for the public to view before it’s taken down and transported to Richmond.

On that note, we need volunteers to help work this booth over the 17 days we have it. Transportation and Ferry costs are paid for, as well as on-site accommodations on one of two RV’s the District has at their disposal. We are hoping that each shift would consist of 2-3 days.

It is expected that over 200k people will be coming by and this is a GREAT time to show-off our amazing piece of the island and help work this awesome booth that we have.
