Discover Sooke

Aug 1st Ed and Leyla fished the Sooke Salmon enhancement derby again this year with 2Reel. Had a good hit on a glow hootchie first pass on Possession Point, early in the morning, didn’t hook up. There were a few fish caught. Took 5 Pink Salmon for smoking.

Aug 2nd, Fished 2nd day of the derby at Possession Point, no big Springs to report. More Pink Salmon taken for smoking.

Aug 3rd Fished with Micheal and his Japanese students trolling from the Harbour mouth to Otter Point, playing Pink Salmon and wild Coho Salmon. Took 5 Pinks. Had two big Springs on that didn’t hook up.

Aug 4th Fished Sherringham Point with guests Shelley and Greg, saw a couple of fish caught, had one on for a short time. Landed 1 hatchery Coho and 3 Pinks. We were looking for big Springs. Hooked into a big Spring at Possession Point while the whales were in the area, it broke the hooks in half and got away.

Aug 6th Fishing with the same crew as above, limited out on Pink Salmon and got a 15lb Spring at Possession Point, as the whales were coming in.

Aug 7th Fishing with Stephano and Lilliano’s crews from Vancouver, they booked both boats for two days. Fished Possession Point early morning and landed an 11,19,and 23lb Springs, released an 18lb wild Coho, and kept 12 Pink Salmon for smoking. 55ft on the downrigger seemed to work early morning tight to the rock.

Aug 8th Fished with the same crew as above at the same location and landed 20 and 24lb Springs. Moved off Secretary Island to catch more Pink Salmon for the boys.

Aug 9th Fished with Matt, Marty,Linda and Ryan at the Trap Shack, landed a 30lb Spring off the reef second pass of the morning. Continued to land another smaller Spring and a hatchery Coho, and the limit of Pink Salmon.

Aug 10th Fished with Mal,Mike,Jackie and Cheryl, slow day for Spring Salmon, Orca Whales were in the Trap Shack first thing in the morning. We trolled out and took the limit of Pink Salmon and one hatchery Coho Salmon. Didn’t see any Springs caught, heard of a couple.

Aug 11th Another slow day for Spring Salmon at Possession Point, fishing with Stephano,Silva, and Dan. Trolled to the outside and picked up 8 Pink Salmon and dropped back in at Otter Point and got into a 13.5lb Spring Salmon.

Aug 12th Fishing with Mark, John, and Jim from Minniseota with the gear at 87ft on the downrigger in 100ft of water off the Bluffs, we landed a 20lb Spring Salmon. The guys also hooked two Rock Cod and 11 Pink Salmon as we trolled out.

Aug 13th Fished with Darryl,Mike,Marty,and Dale, at Possession Point, landed a 27lb and a smaller Spring Salmon and 14 Pink Salmon. Whales came into Otter Point as we tried for more in the afternoon.

Aug 15th Fished with Andrew,Griffen and Steve at the Bluffs early morning, landed a 16lb Spring Salmon first pass. Also took 10 Pink Salmon trolling out from the Bluffs.

Aug 16th Fished with Rob and Chris, landed an 18lb Spring Salmon at Possession Point and played another that got away.

Aug 17th morning Fished with Ron and Simon at the Bluffs early morning,and landed a 16lb Spring Salmon. Also trolled to the outside and landed 7 Pink Salmon for smoking.

Aug 17th afternoon Fished with Aldo,Louie,Connie and Pat on the outside of Secretary Is. first for Pink Salmon to get used to the gear, landed many Pink Salmon. Trolled into Possession Pt. and the boys landed a 12 and 25lb Spring Salmon late afternoon.

Aug 18th morning Fished with Rob from a few days ago, started at Otter Point and saw very few fish caught. Went back to the Harbour mouth and Rob played one Spring Salmon for a short time, that got away. Took 3 Pink Salmon.

Aug18th afternoon Fished with Micheal and Griffen from Miami, at Otter Point and west of there. Picked up some nice sized Pink Salmon on our first pass, and a small Spring further west of Otter Pt. Saw a few Springs caught lots of boats at Otter Point.

Aug 19th morning Grant and Glenn fished for Salmon for the first time in Sooke, Glenn hooked into a large Spring at Possession on the first pass which got into another boats’ gear and broke off. Grant hooked into a nice 16lb Spring later off the Bluffs, and brought that one in. Also went off the Island and landed 7 Pink Salmon.
