The best Salmon fishing in Sooke, BC in many years continues!
July 18th Fished with Mark and his Son Jeremy from Ontario. Rough water and strong winds started early today, landed four nice hatchery Coho all 6lbs and one small Spring Salmon. Did see some other boats get into larger Spring Salmon. Foggy and windy.
July 19th Mark, his nephew and daughter, Brian, and Stephanie fished the Trap Shack and Secretary Island in flat water and sunny weather. The group landed four hatchery Coho and five Pink Salmon in the strong flooding tide off the Island. Choppy water made trolling challenging, but the crew came together for a great catch.
July 20th Fished with Faye and Chis, Mark and Allison, landed five large hatchery Coho and seven Pink Salmon off Secretary Isand.
July 21st Fishing with Jamie and son (my Godson) Ryan at the Trap Shack landed three Springs ; 5,10 and 15lbs and nine Pink Salmon to limit us out. Sunny weather some wind in the afternoon.
July 22nd Fished with Marty,Adolpho, and Donna, on a foggy morning in the Trap Shack, released many small fish and lost some Pinks and Coho. Landed 3 Pinks and 1 small Spring Salmon. Fun morning, lots of action.
July 23rd Blaine and Mark from the mailand and Sooke on a first time fihing trip in this area. Landed 4 Pinks and 1 Hatchery Coho off Secretary Island. Windy in the afternoon, sunny and warm in the morning, great day.
July 24th Fished Possession and Secretary Is. in the morning, saw a few large Springs caught, didn’t hook up, trolled out to the tide lines. Landed 14 Pink Salmon and 2 Hatchery Coho, found a small Spring at Otter Point later in the day. Released two nice Sockeye Salmon.
July 25th Fished with Micheal, Shirley from New Brunswick and Son Andrew living in Sooke. Micheal pulled a nice 15lb Spring Salmon off the reef at Secretary Is. in the early morning, trolling the gear at 75ft in 115ft of water on the south west corner. Didn’t see alot Springs caught and trolled out for Pinks and Coho. Landed 10 Pinks and one more Spring Salmon about 6lbs. Micheal had a huge Spring on at the reef at Otter, largest on the gear this year, and it cut the leader. We saw the fish at the surface.
July 26th Fished with Dennis, Robert, and Nicky from Victoria and Gabriele visiting from Northern Italy. Trolled the Bluffs to Otter Point with lots of small Spring Salmon we had to release. Went to the outside and landed 12 Pinks and 1 Hatchery Coho. At Otter Point we had one 12 to 13 lb Spring beside the boat on our pink hootchy and it shook off. We were using small pink squirts on 12 inch leaders, tyed with 40lb test ( in case you get a big Spring on it), trolled fast in a south direction behind red flashers.
Good Fishing, Ron
