Mid July sees good fishing in the Sooke area.
July 13th Fished with Giacomo who was having his 76th Birthday today. Trolled Tiger Prawn glow Rhys Davis anchovey teaser head behind a red flasher and Silver Betsy flasher infront of a Purple Haze teaser head. Caught Giacomo’s limit of Pinks and Coho and a 22lb Spring Salmon, as well as crabs in the traps on the way in. Nice flat water, west of Otter Point.
July 14th Fished with Dean and his family members Keith Sean and Ben in the morning west of Otter Point and picked up a couple of nice hatchery Coho. Picked up and ran to the Trap Shack on a hot tip, (not recommended), the bite was not on, we trolled out 2.5 miles and trolled back to Otter Point playing Pink and Coho Salmon with the kids all the way. At Otter Dean got into a nice 22lb Spring. The afternoon flooding tide at Otter Point has been producing fish as normal. Landed four Coho, five Pinks, one Rock cod, and the Spring.
July 15th Fished with the same crew as above, but this time the boys wanted to fish for Springs. We stayed in the Trap Shack in flat foggy water, and landed three Springs before 10am; 6,21,and 35lbs. We were trolling the gear at 75 and 85ft for most of the morning.
July 16th Fished the Trap Shack with Rettie and Randy from the mainland. Landed a 15.5 and 11lb Spring Salmon, and numerous Pink and Coho Salmon. Played lots of Pink and Coho’s as well as Springs that didn’t make it to the boat. Flat water, sunny skies and action in the Trap Shack all day long.
July 17th Fished with Chistine, Denise, Andy and Tino from Vancouver and Germany, in the Trap Shack. Andy landed a 13lb Spring infront of the Shack and we had some others strike but didn’t hook up. Played lots of Salmon, great sunny day, flat water. Landed two nice hatchery Coho.
July 18th Fished with Mark and his Son Jeremy from Ontario. Rough water and strong winds started early today, landed four nice hatchery Coho all 6lbs and one small Spring Salmon. Did see some other boats get into larger Spring Salmon. Foggy and windy.
Good Fishing, Ron
