Low Tides and Sea Life around Sooke.

The last week or so, Sooke has seen some very low tides which makes viewing the sealife around us quite good. I always find it fascinating to stare down into the water and see Dungeoness Crab or Sun stars, to name a few, going about what they do. There is a whole other world that lies just below the surface and when the tides are really low, there isn’t a better time to witness these crazy creatures and their habits.

I’ve been walking around the docks at Sooke Harbour Resort and Marina as well as the docks at the Government dock taking in all the sights. I’ve seen many crabs, anenome, starfish, seaweeds and kelp and Salmon fry on my journey.

Some of these starfish, such as the Sun stars, are very large.  I’ve also taken the time to speak with a few of the people running the Sooke Salmon Enhancement fish pens and watching them feed the fry.

Get out and enjoy the wonderful sealife and explore what nature has given us around this part of the world.

If your time doesn’t allow for this, please take a peak at my short video. I’ve placed my underwater camera around some of the docks, to help you get a better look.

I hope you enjoy.
