Kiteboarding off Gordon’s Beach in Sooke, BC with video.
Just west of Sooke on Hwy 14, heading towards Jordan River and Port Renfew, lies Gordon’s Beach, a favourite place for locals to beachcomb and watch the sunset over the Juan de Fuca.
On windy days, it’s also a favourite place for Kiteboarders to play in the waves. On this peticular day, we had just finished training along the Juan de Fuca trail and Port Renfrew and were heading east, back into Sooke.
We were about a mile off Gordon’s Beach and we could see 4 to 5 Kiteboarders playing around. One decided to come out and greet our wake. I would predict that we were doing about 20 – 22 knots in these seas and he didn’t have much problem matching that for some time.
After he crossed our wake he gave us the thumbs up and he headed back towards shore. We were all quite impressed with the speed he could achieve with one of these boards.
