April 1, 2009 Fishing report for the Sooke area.
March 29th Fishing with 2REEL2 guide Bob and Garret from Sooke, out front of the Harbour mouth. Trolling an anchovey in a green glow Krippled head behind a red mirror flasher at 120ft, Garret played a nice 9lb Spring Salmon to the boat. Fished from 2pm to 6pm, no other strikes to note, bite came on when tide and swells calmed down around 5:20pm. Nice sunny warm afternoon.
March 30th Fishing with Leon,Jesse,Harold and Gavin from the mainland and Australia. We began fishing at around 9am, very slow, no strikes morning or afternoon. Choppy ebbing tide most of the morning, wind out of the west, calmed down for the flood in the afternoon, good crabbing in the harbour, 6 nice keepers.
April 3rd Fished with Andy and Qpa from Victoria and Finland, infront of the Harbour mouth, and up to the Trap Shack. No action in front of the Harbour, but Qpa landed his first Pacific Salmon, a nice 10lb Spring, crossing the reef at the Trap Shack. We were trolling an anchovey in a Green Glow Frog pattern at 110ft behind a red mirror flasher. We also picked up a small Rock Cod and Greenling, and had three good crabs in the traps on the way in. Weather was slightly choppy and windy in the morning, but calmed down, by 10am we had flat water and some sunny periods.
