March 4, 2009 – Springs spotty, Halibut around Sooke, BC.
Fishing in Sooke continues to be Spotty for Winter Springs. Many boats have been reporting no strikes at all, but others are getting stikes and landing some smaller winter Springs recently. It appears the fish have moved on.
Les and Bruce Bagley reported landed two smaller Spring Salmon in front of the Bluffs and west to the Trailer Park today, they said it was flat and warm on the water.
Boats are just starting to get out for some Halibut fishing, have heard of two being caught so far, one from out west Jordon River area and one from the Bluffs area.
March 4th Fishing with Dave and Garrett, two local fishermen, we trolled west from the harbour mouth to Sherringham Point. We released two small Salmon on the way to the lighthouse, and had one huge strike on the way back by Gordon’s Beach, in 80ft of water, that spat the hook out.
The bites were on anchovey in a Rhys Davis purple black and chrome teaser head trolled close to the bottom. Water was calm some sun and clouds. Two other boats were out fishing for Halibut, Natural High had one in the boat around 40lbs, coming from out west of us.
Good Fishing, Ron
