A Visit to Tugwell Creek Honey Farm and Meadery near Sooke, BC
Tugwell Creek Honey Farm and Meadery offers a sweet surprise just a short drive west of Sooke along Highway 14. The sprawling property is beautiful unto itself; and the charming “tasting” room houses a variety of unique, aromatic award-winning meads (honey wine) and honey.
Our visit to the meadery on Saturday, February 6 provided the perfect afternoon diversion. The sun was shining, the wind was warm and the mead was flowing. We tasted three varieties of mead and four varieties of honey. While everything we sampled was exquisite; we fell under the spell of the Kickass Currant, Family Reserve, 2006. Our host, Bob Liptrot, completed the experience with thorough knowledge of his craft and educational commentary on the history of mead. Interesting and enchanting, from the flavours to the ambience, Tugwell Creek Honey Farm and Meadery is definitely worth a visit.
Tugwell Creek Meadery is currently open for tastings and self guided tours on Saturdays and Sundays from 12pm-5pm. Beginning May 1st through September 30th the meadery is open Wednesday – Sunday from 12pm – 5pm
