Bombora Gifts – A fantastic store in the heart of Sooke.

If you are walking into this store, be prepared to walk out with your arms full of neat gifts and items for your home. When we moved to Sooke last year, we had decorating on our mind. We had just bought a larger home and it was sitting empty in our eyes. We had never been into Bombora Gifts before but having walked by it a few times while getting our groceries at Village Foods, it had made us curious enough to venture in.

What a surprise upon entering this store. One of the reasons we moved to Sooke was the small town feeling. Both of us had grown up in small towns, later leaving them for larger cities where we pursued our schooling.

Flash forward 10 years and we immediately get that warm feeling we were once accustomed with growing up.

Walking into this store we were immediately greeted with smiles. Sure, what a cliche thing to say, but it was more than just smiles, it was polite and genuine conversation, asking if we were were looking for anything specific. Since we told them we were just browsing, they made an effort to lay low, but we knew there were there if we had questions.

One thing that I dislike about many stores is persistent sales people. Ones that only think of the bottom line, money over costumer satisfaction. If you choose the latter, the first should come easily.

Bombora Gifts just gets it and that’ what makes them right.

We continued browsing every little trinket and every little item in the store. Not quite realizing we had our hands full of neat things, we decided we’d better call it a day. We did however just increase our monthly mortgage moving out here and we better make sure there is enough left over for paying that at the end of the month.

Cecile, the owner of the store, was asking us questions and thought we might have been new to the community. An sure way to tell she actually does remember and care who her customers are and if they are repeat customers or new customers.

Well, needless to say our house is nicely decorated after many trips back to Bombora Gifts in the ensuing months.

Aside from just household items and gifts they have a wide selection of dried dips, oils, olives, mustards, all of the “gourmet kind”.

I should also mention that her husband, makes some wonderful wood items as well. One in specific is a piece to hang necklaces on. You’ll see them in the display case when you walk in. My wife and I were in there one night not too long ago, sampling on olives and cheese mind you, when she admired these pieces. She asked Cecil about them and she mentioned that her husband had build them. My wife inquired about purchasing one and was told her husband would love to build one for us. 2 weeks later we are now the proud owner of a dresser top, necklace holder. Thank guys, now I’m going to be obligated to ensure she has enough necklaces to wrap around it.

Be sure to stop in there for some GREAT Christmas ideas for your friends and family. Tell Cecile DiscoverSooke says hi, we’ll definitely be back soon.
