Remembrance Day in Sooke
November 11th – a day to reflect; a time to remember. The Remembrance Day parade and ceremony held at the Sooke Branch #54 Royal Canadian Legion was a moving reminder of all that has been lost and all that has been gained through the course of war. The pipes and drums, the choir and the trumpeter helped to set the solemn tone for the wreath-laying service at the cenotaph.
A new resident to Sooke, I was surprised and impressed with the number of people who turned out for the ceremony, despite the persistence drizzle. This was a further testament to the notion that Sooke is a tight-knit and caring community.
