Good Winter Fishing In Sooke

Fishing in Sooke continues to be GREAT for Winter Springs, The most consistant fishing spots for the Springs seem to be off the Harbour mouth, across the Bluffs, and onto to Otter Point.

The Salmon are being caught on many different hootchy, anchovey and spoon combinations, including Purple Haze, Glow Below, Moby Dick, Green Glow, Glow and Green, the Nasty Boy, and Cop Car.

Bob Waldhaus brought a nice 12lb Spring Salmon on Nov. 8th, and Dave Yakimovich and son Dillon an 8 and 12lb Springs today to weigh in at Eagle Eye Outitters.

The ”Here Fishy Fishy Chum Derby” put on by the Sooke Harbour Marina and Resort appears to have been a success, everyone I spoke with had a good time. There was an 11.7lb Chum caught on the last day of the Derby, in the last half hour before the weigh in cut off.

The prizes, I heard, were great, one of Gerritt’s fish caught on our boat won him 5 free pizza’s at Pizzability in Sooke.

Oct.31st Fishing for a couple of hours in the morning between 7:30am and 9:30am, with Nick from Eagle Eye Outfitters. We have tickets for the Sooke Harbour Marina Chum Derby, and thought we might get some Springs while we’re at it. No bites, no fish.

Nov. 1st Fishing the Sooke Harbour Marina Chum Derby, with Nick and Gerrett, (the Derby goes for 10 days). Gerrett landed a feeder Spring 7.2lbs that he weighed into the on line Derby. We only fished for two hours, as we had other commitments.

Nov.2nd Fishing the above Chum Derby with Nick and Garrett, again we fished for two hours and this time the guys each got a Winter Spring. We didn’t weigh the Salmon in as they were slightly smaller than the fish we weighed in yesterday. Next time we will as there are hidden weight prizes.

Good Fishing, Ron
